about Zug >

Zug is the largest town and capital of the Swiss canton of Zug in Switzerland. Its name, translating from German as "pull" or "tug", originates from the fishing vocabulary. In the Middle Ages it referred to the right to pull up fishing nets and hence to the right to fish.

The municipality had a total population of 30,934 in 2020. The official language of Zug is the Swiss variety of Standard German, but the main spoken language is the local variant of the Alemannic Swiss German dialect.

According to 2023 data, Zug is the fastest growing canton in Switzerland and is home to more than 19,000 companies. fDI Intelligence crowns Zug as best-ranked micro city of the future in Europe. As stated by the report, "the city boasts particularly high economic potential and is the most business-friendly city in its category at the same time. Between 2016 and 2021, Zug recorded 33 foreign direct investment projects in the fields of finance, life sciences and energy."

Situated 30 minutes by train from Zurich or Lucerne.
